A useful safety conversation rarely ends with “training completed”. The next questions matter just as much: what have we learnt, how will we apply it, and how will we know whether anything has improved?

Start with the work, then choose the learning
Imagine a near miss in a busy dispatch area. The immediate response follows the organisation’s own procedures. Once people are safe, the team needs to understand what happened and what should change.
Sentinel Incident provides a place to capture the report and assign its review. Investigate supports examining the event and its evidence. Bowtie helps teams consider threats, consequences and barriers; Assure supports reviewing controls and action effectiveness.
Alongside that work, managers can consider whether people need further learning. The Academy’s Hazard Identification and Controls course and Accident Investigation course are relevant places to explore. Review the course content against the role, location and learning need before enrolling.
The aim is a more thoughtful response: identify what needs attention, choose suitable learning, discuss its application and review what happens afterwards.
A clearer route to relevant courses
The new Safetyman Academy course library lets visitors search by topic, narrow the selection by subject and review individual course details. Its learning pathway finder offers another starting point for people who know their area of work but are unsure which course to choose.
For returning learners, My learning brings available courses and recorded progress together. For authorised group leaders, the team workspace provides a view of assigned groups, progress and completion records.
Keep knowledge, evidence and judgement connected
Sentinel Competence supports recording task requirements, training and practical assessment evidence, and scoped authorisations. An Academy learning record can inform an organisation’s wider assessment, alongside workplace instruction and demonstrated ability.
This is a complementary approach to learning and operational management. It does not imply automatic transfer of Academy records into Sentinel, shared subscriptions or a single sign-in. Course completion alone does not establish practical competence for a task.
